When Sharing Your Home In Lagos

Never share your home without reading this flat-sharing is becoming a huge consideration for many people especially for the Millenials which is normal (i mean just imagine starting life with all these big problems on just one head). The existence of AIRBNB proves that people share apartments for different reasons. In Lagos, one major reason is finding a person(s) who you can split the high rent charges and wahala bills related to living in the city

It is easier to rent a place with a friend or family, yeah we know! way easier, but most times situations don't go as planned. So the question is, what are the factors to put into consideration when sharing your apartment for a longterm. Below are some points to consider when sharing your home
Financial status: you need to know if a sub renter is capable of paying rent continuously and consistently. A good first step will be to check his/her financial standing, ask question's concerning employment status and monthly income by requesting for the document's indicating a statement of a bank account.
Employment Status: Whether a renter is self-employed or on a white-collar job, the important point to note is the steadiness of his or her income to prevent a case story that touches.
Relationship status: The idea of a shared apartment is more suitable for singles and nonmarried renters (in my opinion) even though married couples living in a shared apartment is not completely unheard of, it just less complicated with singles.
Available guarantor: There has to be some form of family trace and backing for security and also in the case of an emergency
Past flatmate relationship: Ask questions about their relationship with past flatmates (if any). His or her response will help determine their ability to share a home in the long term.
OCD LEVEL: Renters who have high OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) are more suitable for self cons and mini flats.
Possible common interest: Having flatmates with common or similar interests just makes everything easier for both parties. Imagine being a fan of the same club or sharing love for fashion. science has proven that people tend to click faster when they have common goals or interests, you get to know this by interacting. Apartment Hunting Timeline In Lagos (When You Should Begin)

We all know the stress of apartment search in Lagos, Housing agents are legendary in Lagos city as a result of their cunning and deceitful ways. But still, we all need somewhere to call home...right? Many renters make the mistake of starting their search too early or too late, this usually affects the quality of the apartment a renter can rent. There are several reasons why an individual would want to move into a new apartment", it could range from Landlord issues to need for closeness to work or school.
When do i start looking for a new apartment?
In terms of land area, Lagos is amongst the smallest states in Nigeria (If not the smallest) and with a population of 17.5 million people, it is understandable why the real estate is always on high demand. This automatically affects the rental market.
An apartment search is best when you’re looking at least one month in advance of your expected move-in date. If you start three months in advance, you’ll are likely to run into the problem of availability. What’s available three or two months in advance of your move-in date will likely be unavailable three months–or even two months–out. if your planned move-in date is over a month, it is probably not worth it to start inspecting the property.
this is the reason why we advise starting a month before the planned move-in date, bear in mind that some locations and type of apartments are on higher demand than others, for example, a self-con or a mini-flat tend to go off the market faster than a three-bedroom flat.
Also, Full or part payment may be required to secure the proposed apartment this shows a sign of actual interest on the apartment as a renter.
